The medieval Lion King

Let’s talk ‘de Leone Rege‘, about The Lion King.

According to one tradition in medieval bestiaries, the lion has three chief characteristics.
These are:

1. It likes to go to the top of the hill, on mountain peaks, for protection. It avoids hunters by first sniffing them at a distance and then covering its tracks with the tail.
2. It always sleeps with eyes open.
3. When the lioness appears to give birth to dead cubs, the lion guards them for three days and three nights and then breathes on them, bringing them to life.
